After leading Bologna to
qualification for the Champions League, coach Thiago Motta will
not be on the bench when they rub shoulders with European
soccer's royalty next season.
The surprise package, who are third in Serie A with one game
left to play, said Thursday that the former Italy midfielder had
told them that he does not intend to renew his contract, which
expires at the end of the month.
The 41-year-old has been strongly linked to Juventus after the
Turin giants sacked Massimiliano Allegri.
"Over the last two years I have got to know a well-prepared
coach who is a winner and has given the team a brilliant
identity in the way they play," said Bologna Chairman Joey
Saputo.
"The achievement of qualifying for the Champions League makes
him and all the players part of the history of our club.
"I would have liked him to stay at Bologna, but I can only thank
him and his staff for these wonderful seasons and wish him the
best for the future."
