The Consulate General of Italy in London organised for the first time at the headquarters of Scotland Yard, the British capital's police force, an information seminar on 'Legality and Crime'. The meeting, which was held in collaboration with the Metropolitan Police Association of British police officers of Italian origin, aimed - with a comparative approach compared to the Italian system - to provide an overview of the most common legal issues in English criminal law and in particular on some behaviours that in Italy are considered as offences of a civil or administrative nature but that in the United Kingdom take on criminal relevance, such as, for example, not paying the ticket on public transport, not paying the television licence fee, carrying urticant spray for personal defence. These are types of offences in which, in addition to compatriots resident here, the many Italians visiting for tourism often incur.
During the meeting, the Consul General of Italy in London Domenico Bellantone thanked the Met Police for the protection it provides on a daily basis to the diplomatic missions present in the British capital and for the assistance provided to the Italian community living in the United Kingdom and to the many tourists visiting. "The one with the police," stressed the Consul General, "is a collaboration that already travels through institutional channels and that we want to further strengthen through this type of initiative in favour of our community. What emerged during the meeting will now be outlined in special sheets that, also in view of the increase in Italian tourists for the summer holidays, will be disseminated through the Consulate General's social channels and published on its website.
